Raccoon River Wrestling is a shared program of girls wrestlers from Waukee, Northwest, ADM, and Van Meter. This is the first year of the program and despite youth and inexperience, they have had a very successful season.

There were 13 girls who competed in the regional tournament and six qualified for state — only 14 schools qualified more athletes. There were only a few girls on the team who had extensive youth experience before this year, so it was impressive to see so many first-year wrestlers qualify for state.

Of the six state qualifiers, there were two wrestlers from the Waukee CSD: Calista Rodish (Freshman, Waukee) and Naomi Templemen (Sophomore, Northwest). Both Rodish and Templeman won at least one match at the state tournament. Rodish beat out her higher-seeded competitor and placed 6th in her weight class. Another member of the team, Katie Biscoglia (Freshman, Van Meter), finished the season with a perfect 46-0 record as she became the first state champion in her weight class.

Overall, the team did very well in their first IGHSAU state championship as they tied for 19th.

Next year, the team is projected to have 15 middle school wrestlers joining the team, and a majority of the state qualifiers this year were sophomores and freshmen. The future of the program is extremely bright!
