Wolves Welcome New Activities Director

Tuesday, July 1, 2025, marks Justin Ohl’s first official day as Northwest High School Activities Director. Ohl becomes the second AD in Northwest High School history following Jim Duea, who retired from school administration and accepted a new role with the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union.

Ohl is originally from Mason City and played college basketball at Drake University. He later became a graduate assistant and, eventually, a full-time assistant coach for seven years. Following his tenure at Drake, in 2011, he joined Waukee CSD as a teacher and head coach of the Waukee High School boys’ basketball team. Coach Ohl concluded his head coaching run in 2021 with an IHSAA Class 4A boys’ basketball state championship with the Warriors.

Justin then moved into an administration role, becoming the 8/9 Activities Director for the north feeder at Prairieview School. He led middle school students, directors, and coaches through grade-level and building changes, arriving at today’s current design for the north feeder schools.

Ohl says, “I am excited for so many things next year, but I think the thing I am looking forward to the most is just watching our students perform in their activities. Our students put in so many hours in preparation for a game, musical, concert, or competition, and to see them achieve their goals is such a rewarding feeling. All of our activities have achieved success and exhibit a standard of excellence.  Commitment to the process is a habit that will benefit our students in the future.”

Please welcome Mr. Ohl to The Pack.
